Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how the Lux Developers ("we", "us", or "Lux") handles information when you use the Lux mobile browser ("the App") and our website at luxbrowser.com (together, "the Services"). Lux is a lightweight browser that uses the Bitmark blockchain — a decentralized reputation system — to help you assess the trustworthiness of the websites you visit.
1. Summary
- We do not collect your browsing history, search queries, or the contents of pages you visit.
- The App reads public reputation data from the Bitmark blockchain. Those queries do not include your identity.
- Anything you publish to the Bitmark blockchain (e.g., attestations or trust relationships) is public and permanent by design.
- We collect the minimum diagnostic information needed to keep the App working, and you can opt out.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you provide
If you contact us (for example, by emailing hello@luxbrowser.com) we receive whatever you send: your email address, your message, and any attachments.
2.2 Information the App processes locally
The App stores the following on your device only. We do not have access to it:
- Browsing history, bookmarks, tabs, and cookies.
- Cached site data and downloaded files.
- Your Bitmark identity keys, if you create or import one.
- Your list of trusted signers and trusted certificates.
2.3 Network requests
When you visit a website through Lux, the App connects directly to that website. We do not proxy or log those connections. The website you visit will receive standard request information (your IP address, user-agent string, etc.) just as it would with any browser.
2.4 Blockchain queries
To verify the reputation of a site, the App queries your chosen Certimark API provider, which is certimark.cc by default. We operate certimark.cc. These queries reveal which site identifiers you are looking up to the node operator. We do not log these queries on the nodes we operate. See Section 5 for details.
2.5 Diagnostic and crash data
If you opt in, the App sends anonymized crash reports and basic diagnostic information (App version, OS version, device model) to our crash reporting server. This information is not linked to your identity. At the moment, we do not have a crash reporting server.
3. How we use information
We use the limited information we receive to:
- Respond to your support requests.
- Investigate and fix bugs and crashes.
- Improve the App's stability and performance.
- Comply with applicable law.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
4. Information published on the Bitmark blockchain
Lux lets you read, and optionally publish, reputation information recorded on the Bitmark blockchain. Anything published (marked) to the blockchain — attestations, signatures, trust relationships — is public, permanent, and outside our control. By default, we do not include personally identifiable information in the data that is published to the blockchain.
5. Third parties
The Services rely on the following third parties. Each has its own privacy practices, which we encourage you to review.
- OVH — serves luxbrowser.com.
- Peer-to-Peer Network of Bitmark Node Operators — answers blockchain queries.
- Our Crash Reporting Server — receives optional diagnostics.
- Google Play — distributes the App and may collect its own install metrics.
6. Data retention
Support emails are kept for 12 months and then deleted. Diagnostic data shall be retained by the crash reporting server for 30 days. Data published to the Bitmark blockchain is retained indefinitely by the network.
7. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the information in our care, including TLS in transit, encryption at rest, access controls. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you as required by law.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, or to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@luxbrowser.com. Note that information published to the Bitmark blockchain cannot be deleted; we will help you understand what is on-chain versus what we hold ourselves.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice through the App or our website.
